Publications

The main focus of Dr Housden's research remains the German occupation of Eastern Europe 1939-45.

Funding for visits to archives in Berlin, Nuremberg, Munich and Koblenz has been provided by the British Academy, the Nuffield Foundation and the University of Bradford. With the primary research process almost complete, he is about to start writing the biography of Hans Frank, the Governor General of southern Poland during the Second World War, hanged at Nuremberg in 1946 as a major war criminal.

Frank's career gives us good insights into the origins of genocide, the character of population resettlement initiatives, the functioning of the German war economy and the psychological make-up of a typical National Socialist satrap.

A further research interest remains the history of security
